SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Governor has declared a state of emergency and State Police are asking motorists to stay off the roads if you don't need to travel.

Governor Deval Patrick says 4,000 plows, sanders and salt trucks will be used to clear roads

Police are dealing with dozens of accidents across the state from the blizzard, and the speed limit along the entire MassPike has been reduced to 40 MPH.

According to a news release sent to 22News by Massachusetts State Police Media Relations, since 7:00 P.M. Sunday, there have been 15 accidents in Western Massachusetts, mostly along the I-91 corridor. The number of accidents in Eastern Mass. was higher, with 51 crashes reported in Southeastern Massachusetts, and 23 crashes in the Greater Boston Area over the same period of time.
