SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two women are being charged with shoplifting after they allegedly were caught trying to put clearance price tags on high-priced dresses that weren’t on sale.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that around 5:00 Monday evening, police were called to Sears at the Eastfield Mall, where security had detained Pebbles Stevens and Julie Lee.
According to Delaney, security had seen Stevens, 22, of Hamden, Conecticut and Lee, 48, of Glenolden, Pennsylvania taking the clearance tags off dresses that were heavily marked down. They then allegedly took those tags and put them on pricier dresses that weren’t on sale.
As a result, the two allegedly tried to buy several $100 dresses for $23 each.
Stevens and Lee were both scheduled for arraignment Tuesday at Springfield District Court on a charge of shoplifting by price tag tampering.
