Elderly Chicopee woman hit by pickup truck

79 year old woman expected to survive

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A 79 year old Chicopee woman is expected to survive after suffering serious injuries when she was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday night in the city's Aldenville section.

Chicopee Police Captain Lonny Dakin told 22News the woman was in a crosswalk at the intersection of  McKinstry Avenue and Arcade Street  a when she was struck about 6:50 Wednesday night.

Captain Dakin did not know the woman's identity, but described her injuries as "serious."  He said she had suffered a head injury but was expected to survive.

When the 22News cameras were there, a heavy duty Ford F-250 pickup truck was being hoisted onto a ramp truck.  There was no visible damage to the truck.

A stretch of McKinstry was closed for about an hour.   No charges have been filed against the driver so far.

Police re-opened McKinstry Ave. just before 9:00 pm.
