SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police may not have found a man they allege was carrying a loaded gun without a license, had he not been seen pedaling a girls’ pink bicycle.

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Cameron Sanford, 38, of Springfield was arrested Wednesday morning, charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

According to Delaney, two plainclothes officers were doing an anti-housebreak patrol in the Boston Road and Pine Point neighborhoods around 10:00 A.M. when they noticed Sanford near Morton Street pedaling a small, pink bicycle designed for girls. As this got their attention, they pulled their unmarked car up to Sanford, who asked them “What ya want?” and appeared to be reaching for a gun.

The officers got out of the cruiser and displayed their badges. They patted Sanford down, and Delaney says Sanford then admitted he was carrying a gun.

A fully loaded .380 gun was seized by the police, Delaney says, and Sanford was arrested.

The bicycle was taken in by police as evidence.
