SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The body of a middle-aged man was pulled from the Connecticut River near the South End Bridge on Friday afternoon.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that emergency crews were called after the body was seen on the river bank just south of the bridge around 3:00 P.M.

The rescue squad helped bring the body up the bank and across the railroad tracks. Members of the Springfield Police, Amtrak Police, and State Police were called in.

Leger said that he had no information as to the man's identity or cause of death.
