HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - One of the two victims of an early afternoon shooting in Holyoke’s Flats neighborhood was a five year-old boy, city police say.

Lieutenant Matthew Moriarty told 22News that a 26 year-old man and the five year-old boy were shot near the corner of Lyman and North Summer Streets around 12:30 P.M.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals, and both are expected to recover. Moriarty said that police would not be releasing their names.

Moriarty says that the boy was shot in the knee, though he did not have information about the adult's wounds.

At this point, police have no word on a possible suspect or a motive for the shooting.

Streets in the area were blocked-off for a short time Wednesday afternoon as police investigated.
