SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police are investigating the shooting of a woman found wounded Tuesday afternoon in the city’s Mason Square neighborhood.
Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that around 1:00 P.M., the woman was found on Bowles Street, was shot once in each leg. She was brought to Baystate Medical Center, but is being uncooperative, Delaney said.
Police are still trying to figure out a motive for the shooting, and continue their investigation.
The Rebecca Johnson Elementary School is not far from where the victim was found. Springfield Public Schools Spokesperson Azell Cavaan told 22News that the school had been put on lockdown, but classes continued as-normal. No one at the school was hurt.
At this time, Delaney says, it appears that the victim was shot somewhere else, and not on Bowles Street.
