SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Police in Springfield are still looking for a shooter who wounded three young people at a late night beach party.

People were back out at Lake Lorraine on Saturday despite a shooting that left three people injured.

Early Friday morning a police officer was flagged down by a naked man who said he had been shot on the beach at Lake Lorraine.

A 23 year old man and 17 year old girl were also wounded.

Capt. Cheryl Clapprood said the search for the gunman was focused in the wooded area behind the Knights of Columbus off of Page Blvd.

It's where police found .40 caliber shell casings and it was reported that the gunman was using a laser sight, shocking those who were at the beach the next day.

“This is not a war zone, why would you be out here with that type of weapon,” said John Johnson.

Police tape still surrounds the area where the group was believed to be hanging out and where the shell casings were found. Police say 15-20 young people were gathered there to swim.

Grand Knight at the Knights of Columbus said these late-night parties are nothing new and also not allowed.

“We have no trespassing signs up behind us that says no drinking, no alcohol, no trespassing, members only. We're trying to stop it the best way we can to make our neighbors happy also,” said Jerome provost of the Knights of Columbus.

Still, police are searching for the shooter and are asking anyone with information to call.
