HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Holyoke police are still waiting to find out whether an object found Monday inside a city canal is indeed a genuine human skull.

A state anthropologist has been investigating since a construction worker found the object in the drained canal near the corner of Main and South Canal Streets. On Monday, Police Captain Arthur Monfette told 22News that it is possible that the skull is a fake, but it appeared to officers and medical examiners to be a real human skull.

Monfette was hoping to have a determination by Tuesday, but on Wednesday morning, he told 22News that they still do not have the results of the investigation.
