HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The controversial issue of illegal immigration is taking center stage in Massachusetts with the release of a new poll.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform reports that 67 percent of people polled believe illegal immigration is harming the state.

The same percentage oppose allowing illegal immigrants to attend state universities on government subsidies.

Legislation to allow that is currently pending in Massachusetts.

The poll also showed that more than half said they would like to see policies in place like those in Arizona, where illegal aliens are required to carry their documents at all times.

42 percent believe illegal immigrants take jobs away from American workers.
