HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - A state anthropologist is investigating what appears to be a human skull that was pulled out of a Holyoke canal Monday morning.
Holyoke police Captain Arthur Monfette told 22News that they drained the canal Sunday for cleaning purposes. On Monday, a member of a nearby construction site reported that he thought he could see a skull in the drained canal near the corner of Main and South Canal Streets.
Monfette said it's possible that it’s a fake, but it appeared to police and medical examiners to be a real human skull, so they've sent it off to the state to investigate further.
Monfette told 22News that he hoped to get the results on Tuesday, but as of Wednesday morning, there still was no conclusion.
