Postal Service on the verge of dropping Saturday mail

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Plenty of problems for the United States Postal Service .

Last month, the Postal Service announced that it would drop Saturday mail delivery by August to save money.
 
Now a new spending bill that Congress passed yesterday appears to continue the requirement for six-day mail delivery.
 
However, some lawmakers and postal officials say plans to cut Saturday service should go on as usual.

Buzz Roddy of Bronx, New York, told 22News, "Congress has the power to change this but, as usual, they refuse to do anything and it's about a whole bunch of things that they do with their vested interests and not our."

The Postal Service said it could save $2 billion a year with the Saturday cutback. The agency lost $1.3 billion in the three final months of last year.
 
That loss was following a nearly $16 billion loss the previous fiscal year.
