Thousands in WMass without power due to Sandy

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - As the winds from Hurricane Sandy have become stronger, larger power outages are being reported across western Massachusetts.

As of 3:00 A.M., Western Massachusetts Electric Company is reporting 9,170 customers without power.

The largest outages are in Pittsfield, where 2,052 are without power, in Lanesborough where 915 are without power, in Becket where 812 customers are without power, Hinsdale, where 703 customers are without power, and Blandford, where 606 customers are without electricity . There are additional scattered outages throughout the area, particularly in Berkshire County and western portions of Hampden and Hampshire Counties.

Meanwhile, National Grid is reporting more than 6,351 western Massachusetts customers without power, with most of Brimfield without power. Other scattered outages have been reported throughout Franklin, Berkshire, Hampshire, and Hampden counties.
