Propane burn causes curiosity in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - If you were on Memorial Avenue in West Springfield Friday morning, you may have seen flames behind the Century Center Plaza. Do not be alarmed, however, it is all part of a permitted burn.

According to the West Springfield Fire Department, USA Propane, which is located behind the plaza, is burning propane. The process, which has been cleared with the town, and has been going on for three weeks, is a way to clean out their tanks.

Still, the burning has been a curiosity, and people gathered Friday morning at the plaza to watch the yellow flames shooting 12-15 feet into the air. Several people have been calling the West Springfield police and fire departments concerned that there was a building fire, but there, of course, is no danger.
