EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Peter Punderson was confirmed as the official winner of December's special election for East Longmeadow Board of Selectmen.

For the first time in a decade, the Town of East Longmeadow held a recount.

Angela Thorpe, who lost to Punderson by 12 votes on December 19th, filed a recount petition.

The race was to fill retired Selectman Jim Driscoll's spot.

After the three hour recount, the numbers remained the same.

“All the ballots were counted electronically and that there weren't any discrepancies after the original election. So I was pretty confident, but as always, there is the unexpected that could happen. Fortunately it came out like this. I am very happy,” said newly elected Selectman
Peter Punderson.

Angela Thorpe said she will be running again for an elected position in April.

The final vote count was:

Peter Punderson         836
Angela Thorpe              824
