SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - Thousands of people gathered in Jefferson County Pennsylvania, patiently waiting for one of the most famous weather forecasters in the world.

Punxsutawney Phil made his annual appearance this morning.

He popped out of his burrow at Gobblers Knob in west-central Pennsylvania and did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring is around the corner

According to some unofficial numbers, Phil has seen his shadow 98 times over the years, and not seen it only 17 times.

More than 20-thousand people attended the welcome-back party for Phil.

Phil has groundhog friends in Atlanta and New York.

They will make predictions, too.  But Punxsutawney partisans say Phil is the original and the best.
