(WWLP) - Popular Springfield morning radio host John O’Brien says that he hopes to be back on the air very soon.
The co-host of Rock 102’s Bax & O’Brien is fighting stage three melanoma, and earlier in the week had been hospitalized for complications resulting from his surgery.
He is now back at home, and under the care of visiting nurses. But his battle against skin cancer is still far from over the next step is to see if he qualifies for a clinical trial for a new treatment.
"I realized this really is one of the more deadly forms of cancer. Yeah, it was scary and it still is even to be told that you're 'cancer free,' the term that they use," O'Brien said.
"There are still therapies because there may still be microscopic things floating around there, and I'm at a much greater likelihood to get it again. So, this is hopefully something preventative that will stop that."
He told 22News that he hopes to begin broadcasting the Bax & O’Brien show from his home.
The radio host has been blogging about his recovery, and you can follow O’Brien’s latest blog entry at baxandobrien.rock102.com
