Rally against domestic violence held in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - In downtown Springfield Sunday afternoon, dozens of protestors showed their anger and frustration as they rallied against domestic violence.

They gathered at city hall for a march through downtown to the North end of the city. The shirts they were reflected the deep feeling for domestic violence victims, Jessica Rojas and Julie Treadwell. Several generations were represented, and as one organizer told 22News, they have to make an impression on the younger generation.

“The new generation can come out here together and make a difference so people can take this a little bit more serious.  It's not taken seriously; domestic violence comes along with a lot of other things, emotional abuse it comes along with everything. We want to get the word out it's not a joke it's a crime, it's a crime,” a protest organizer told 22News.

Many of the protesters wore purple to show their contempt for domestic violence and their deep feelings for the victim. One organizer told 22News her heart is broken each time children are deprived of their young parent because of domestic violence. She said each person is an advocate to create an awareness that will help protect others now being threatened with abuse and violence.
