SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One local landscaper is hoping to re-tree the community.
Stephen Roberts wants to plant 1000 trees between now and the end of the spring.
The June 1st tornadoes destroyed thousands of trees from Westfield to Monson and beyond. Roberts is offerering a buy one tree, get a second one free promotion. Every day Roberts sees how different Springfield looks.
"It's bare naked. You drive through parts of South Branch Parkway and you can see for a mile or so straight shot right over Springfield College. It's a whole different community now", says Roberts.
The total cost of planting two trees is between $150 and $200 dollars.
The trees available are Elms, Maples, Oaks, River Birch, Linden, Honey Locust and Dogwood.
Roberts' recommends a three step process for planting trees. Order your trees, install stakes with white flagging to indicate where you want the trees, then call dig safe to let them know you're having work done.
