SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's been a busy week for the Pioneer Valley American Red Cross.
The Red Cross and their volunteers have been called to help people who lost their homes in six separate fires in western Massachusetts.
Late Wednesday night, a fire destroyed a house in Springfield's North End, leaving ten people with no place to stay until the Red Cross got there.
But they provide more than just shelter.
"Housing, so they've got someplace to stay. They've got food to eat. And that they've got clean clothing to wear for the next day or two. Then a big thing that we do is give them resources and guidance. Most people say to us I've never faced this before. I don't know what to do,” Mary Nathan told 22news.
They're there when you need them, and all of the Red Cross Services are free, funded by donations.
This busy fire season has cut into the funds they use to provide services.
