SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The X is a busy shopping hub in Springfield's Forest park neighborhood.
It was the X where a man stole hundreds of Oxycodone pills from a Walgreens Pharmacist at the point of a gun this weekend.
Neighbors told 22News how the incident affected them.
“Upset, nervous, you know I used to walk to Cumberland Farms at night, from 11 O'clock at night and get a pack of cigarettes but now you just have to look over your shoulder anytime you walk,” said Steven Caffrey.
Less than 24 hours ago a man with a silver handgun demanded narcotics from the pharmacist at Walgreens. Springfield police Lt. John Bobianski told 22News the thief ran down Belmont Avenue towards East Longmeadow and disappeared.
Joseida Moore said, “To tell you the truth it makes me feel uneasy. I live down the street, I come here every evening, and I answer emergency calls, to tell you the truth it makes you think. ”
In fact everyone 22News spoke with about the armed robbery that occurred while were filled with families, considers this incident a threat to their quality of life.
One grandfather said crime is getting too close for comfort.
“I'm very much concerned about it. As a matter of fact, I think it was last year, I prevented a person from stealing from my neighbor's backyard,” Cariq Abdu-Qaadir said.
So far the armed thief is still on the loose. But what he did has apparently shaken up the neighborhood.
