WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Near zero visibility hampered efforts to find a robbery suspect who jumped from the Memorial Bridge into the Connecticut River in West Springfield Friday night.
West Springfield Police Captain Thomas Wilkinson told 22News that West Side police chased two suspects who had robbed a victim near a convenience store a little before 10:00 PM Friday.
The police arrested one of the suspects, but the other jumped from the bridge.
Captain Wilkinson said the howling wind, blowing snow and reduced visibility made it unsafe for rescue personnel to to launch boats.
Police and fire fighters used floodlights and searched along the riverbanks, but they were unable to find the man as of midnight Friday.
