SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A 19 year-old Springfield man has been arrested for allegedly throwing a rock at a tractor trailer truck while it was traveling through an area of Springfield where there have been lots of rock throwing complaints from motorists.
Officer Richard Rodrigues told 22News that Melvin Cruz Arroyo was walking on the sidewalk on Plainfield Street when he allegedly threw the rocks at the cab of the truck.
The driver of the truck told nearby police, who chased Arroyo and arrested him.
Officer Rodrigues says rock throwing in the area of Plainfield and West Streets (near the North End Bridge) has been a persistent problem. Several motorists also brought the matter to 22News’ attention back in March; some of whom had their windshields ruined.
Arroyo is not being charged in connection with any other incident.
Springfield police have increased patrols through that area to crack down on people throwing rocks at cars.
