HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The sales tax holiday weekend wrapped up today, which means the states's 6.25% sales tax will be back from vacation tomorrow.
It certainly wasn't your average lazy Sunday for shoppers who wanted to take advantage of the second half of the sales tax holiday weekend. The mall was bustling with shoppers looking to nab some bargains befor e the new week begins.
The sales tax holiday weekend is a good time for anyone to spend money on big purchases. But it's especially convenient for students on a budget as they head back to school.
“I actually bought a laptop. School's starting again. Finishing up my masters and save some money,” said Chris Ramadon of Three Rivers.
“I got my macbook pro for college. I didn't know it was tax free weekend until a couple days ago. I think we saved 80 bucks off the laptop,” said Alex Ricco of West Springfield.
This group estimated they saved around $300 by grabbing their loot over the tax free weekend. But students aren't the only ones who need some pricey school supplies.
“I came to buy an iPad. I teach at Chicopee high school. All the kids have a lot of technical devices which I know nothing about. I figured I'd get up with the times a little bit more. I've been thinking about it. I figured this weekend was the time to do it to save a little money on it,” said Frederick Pelczar of Chicopee.
And what better way for students and teachers to begin the new year, than with the tools they need and a little extra cash in their pockets.
