SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The school day will be getting longer for some students in Massachusetts.
State lawmakers announced Monday it will participate in a Pilot Program - extending the day in two communities to see if students perform better in school.
Fall River and Lawrence are the two towns included in the program.
An AIC Psychology professor told 22News Tuesday that she thinks the longer day will be beneficial - but she wants to see more down time for students as well.
“I also think a little extra time for lunch, having time to socialize, having time to move around the building between classes would actually be very beneficial,” said Toni Spinelli-Nannen. “And if they added that it'd be a great way to increase learning.”
The Pilot Program will last about 3 years and include about 20,000 students.
