SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - There's a new eye in the sky in the "X" in Springfield. DPW Information Technology Spokesman Bob Houldson told 22News it's the 40th multipurpose camera of its kind installed in the city.
Springfield's DPW, Police Department and Business Improvement District are the three agencies that will monitor the 360-degree camera.
Salvatore Circosta, Owner of Sal's Bakery & Cafe , told 22News it's comforting to know there's another set of eyes looking out for the neighborhood. "The city is going to have a better understanding of where crime is happening, where traffic problems are and having a camera on my business is always good for the customers and it's good for me as the owner."
The camera should be live by the end of the week for these three agencies to view.
Unlike MassDOT highway cams, this stream will not be made public.
