SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - On Thursday, Senator John Kerry will tour the state to thank his constituents.

His "Farewell Tour" kicks off in Springfield.

It's his last full day as the Senior Senator from Massachusetts.

He begins in Springfield at the YouthBild USA building.

John Kerry had been serving Massachusetts in the senate since 1984.

He's held powerful positions and was the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee.

He ran for President in 2004.

Senator Kerry also holds a lot of political clout. He is the 7th most senior member of the Senate.

Kerry will be here in Springfield at 10:00AM Thursday.

After meeting with constituents and local officials, he heads to Worcester, and then Faneuil Hall in Boston.

Kerry will officially be sworn in as Secretary of State on Friday.

He picked Supreme Court Justice and former Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan to administer the oath.

Also in Springfield on Thursday is congressman Stephen Lynch.

He'll be at the O'Briens Corner restaurant at 9:00AM.

He's expected to announce his candidacy for Senator Kerry's seat.
