Senate candidates square off for a second debate Monday night

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Senator Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren are preparing for their second debate Monday night at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.

In one of the nation's most closely watched U.S. Senate races this year, Republican Sen. Scott Brown and Democrat Elizabeth Warren are preparing for their second in a series of four debates.

The two candidates will face off for one hour before 4500 people at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell Monday night at 7:00.

“I know this is one of the hottest senate races in the country so I think a lot of people from outside Massachusetts will be watching too. I am interested in the election and am planning to vote. I pretty much know who I am voting for, but I am still going to watch the debate,” Igor Greenwald told 22News.

But not everyone believes the debates are very significant.

“It’s definitely overhyped. I don't hear anyone talking about it at all around here or anywhere,” Ashley Searle said.

According to a poll released Sunday by the Boston Globe, Warren leads Brown 43% to 38%, but the race remains within each candidate's grasp, with 18% of voters still undecided.

The second Senate debate begins at 7:00 Monday night.

David Gregory, host of NBC's "Meet the Press" will moderate the hour-long debate.
