WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) - A motorcyclist was killed when his bike crashed head-on into an oncoming car on Main Street in Wilbraham Thursday. Wilbraham police believe the rider was traveling at a speed close to 100 mph.
Wilbraham Police Chief Roger Tucker told 22News John T. Lander of Hampden was "thrown approximately 45 feet from the point of impact and sustained severe injuries as a result of this crash."
The 46-year-old Lander was traveling down Main Street when it crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming car.
Lander was taken to BayState Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Chief Tucker said "the preliminary investigation revealed that Lander had entered a right turn in the roadway while traveling south on Main Street and had then entered into the north bound land and into the travel path of the Ford SUV."
The Wilbraham Police Department Reconstruction Specialist believes that Mr. Lander was traveling at a speed close to 100 mph at the time of the crash.
The two people in the Ford SUV were not injured. The crash is still under investigation, but it appears that no charges will be filed.
