AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Guest readers helped one Amherst elementary school celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.
22News reporter Anaridis Rodriguez had the honor of reading the Springfield native’s book The Lorax to students at the Fort River Elementary School.
Members from the Amherst College hockey team, tennis team, and volleyball team, the town's Fire Chief Tim Nelson, and the Amherst Police were also among the readers. They read a number of Dr. Seuss books to dozens of K-6th grade students.
The school's principal says this is the first year the school got involved in this type of reading series.
“What a great way to have people from our community come in and read with us and model for our children. So, they are not just seeing people here at the school reading, but they also see people that they see out in the community doing the same thing,” Principal Monica Hall said.
Saturday will mark the 109th birthday of Dr. Seuss, who was born Theodor Geisel, and grew up in Springfield.
