Six people homeless in Springfield fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Fire left six people homeless in Springfield's Hungry Hill neighborhood Monday night.

Aide to the Springfield fire commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News the fire started in the basement at 129 Woodmont Street around 9:00 PM Monday.

Leger said the Red Cross is helping two adults and four children.

Firefighters tried but could not save the family's seven-year-old Chihuahua.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is looking into the cause.
