Smelly fall pests make an appearance

Stink bugs are the size of a penny

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - We're saying goodbye to mosquitoes, but a smelly pest is making its appearance.

A lot of people refer to them as "stink bugs," but they're actually the "western conifer seed bug."

They're about the size of a penny. If you disturb them or squash them, they release a horrible odor which is part of their defense mechanism.

With cooler temperatures, they're trying to seek shelter inside, coming through windows and doors.

According to Keith Lacross, service manager at Braman Pest Elimination , "The best way to keep them out of your house and to prevent them going into your house will be to seal around doors and windows with calking, materials like that. Close off those gaps, they're small bugs, you may not feel a draft coming in your window, but it doesn't take much."

Lacross suggests removing them by vacuuming. You could also put them in a jar and release them far from your home.
