Snow tools more durable today than previous winters

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - When it comes to snow removal, it's not just about a scraper and shovel anymore.

The tools you use to help you through the winter are getting stronger and easier to use.

At your local hardware store you have a lot more choices available to you than ever before.

Roof rakes gained popularity two winters ago, snow scrapers are sold in combination with snow brushes and for added convenience you can even get mittens with ice scrapers attached.

The products sold today are an improvement over winter items available in the past.

"The plastic shovels that are out now, the plastic is much more durable, holds up a lot longer. Lots of different things in terms of the plastic shovels have nice metal edges on them,” Scott Robbins said.

Even the bristles in snow brushes are finer and won't fall out as easily. Handles are made with more durable wood and the aluminum on snow pushers is made with much better quality.

With snow in the forecast for Tuesday, now might be the best time to check on the condition of your older winter tools.
