Snowy start to the weekend

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Just when we thought we were done with snow, we are waking up to some fresh powder this morning.

This is nothing compared to the blizzard conditions we experienced last week during the February Nor'easter .

On main roads like Memorial Drive in Chicopee, the snow melts quickly as soon as it touches the ground.

But on smaller residential streets, it's a different story.

2-4 inches of snow isn't enough for plow trucks, so most cities and towns will rely on salt and sand to treat the roads.

That's why when you're making turns or trying to stop, your car may spin out.

The little bit of snow on the ground isn’t something you should ignore, even if your vehicle has 4-wheel drive.

It's important to slow down, and pump your brakes, instead of braking suddenly to avoid spin-outs.

Make sure you leave enough room between you and the car in front of you.

Also, make sure you clear the snow off your car before you leave your driveway.

That includes front and back windshields, side view mirrors, headlights and taillights.
