SPRINGFIELD,Mass.(WWLP) - The Pioneer Valley American Red Cross received a major donation Wednesday night.
Woody Johnson, the owner of Woodland Energy, donated a solar powered generator.
The generator provides remote electrical current by taking energy from the sun and storing it in specialized batteries for use anywhere, at any time.
Disaster Services Director Mary Nathan told 22News that the generator will be a major asset when they respond to disasters where power is interrupted.
"We will be able to fulfill our mission and service the clients that we need regardless if the powers on or no because we'll be having our own. And because it's portable we're going to be albe to transport it where ever we need to go," Nathan said.
The generator also has a name, Hubert, which stands for home utilities and boating electrical rechargeable transporter.
