SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Sorority of African-American educators and social workers are helping disadvantaged Springfield students obtain school uniforms.
The Delta Sigma Theta sorority is in the midst of a school uniform drive at the Progressive Community Baptist Church on State Street. It's a drive to benefit children from kindergarten through fifth grade who come from a poor family.
“There's a lot of students who only own one uniform, and when they don't have another one sometimes they don't come to school,” said Jocelyn Cash of Springfield.
The Delta Sigma Theta members decided that lack of uniforms is a serious problem facing many children who come from families with modest means.
