SPD investigating murder on Eastern Ave

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police are investigating a murder on Eastern Ave in the city's Old Hill neighborhood.

Springfield Police Captain William Collins told 22News the 19-year-old victim was shot just before 6:00 Friday night.  The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police are not releasing the victim's identity until family is notified.

When our 22News crew arrived on Eastern Ave., police had blocked traffic at the corner of Chapel Street and Eastern Ave.  A forensics truck had also just pulled up to the site of the shooting.  No arrests have been made.

This is the city's 10th murder in 2012 and second murder this week.

Sadeeq Khalid Allah,38, was found stabbed to death on Tuesday in the city's North End.  Edwin Santiago, 28, has been charged with Allah's murder.  Police say the murder may have involved drugs.
