WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Massachusetts voters, heading to the polls for this year's special Senate election, will find there are more candidates compared to the last special election.

As of now, there are 5 candidates who say they've collected enough signatures needed to get on the primary ballot. Congressmen Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch are facing off against each other on the Democratic side; and for the Republicans: former Navy SEAL and Cohasset businessman Gabriel Gomez, Norfolk state Representative Daniel Winslow, and former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan will all be running.

The primary is set for April 30th and the final election will be held on June 25th.

One of the candidates, Gabriel Gomez, will be visiting the West Springfield American Legion at 2:45pm on Thursday. Until now, he has refused to hold any public events or speak to reporters.
