Spfld entertainment license hearing

The Springfield License Commission will hold a hearing Wednesday night on whether bars should close down by 1 A-M.

Right now, only the entertainment has to stop by 1-AM.

The public is invited to attend the hearing.

It'll take place at City Hall - Room 220 at 5:30PM.

In April of 2012, a decision was made to alter the city's entertainment licenses regulations.

Right now, bars can still serve alcohol until 2-AM, but all entertainment has to shut down by 1-AM.

And now the city is considering taking it a step further by forcing all bars to completely close down by 1-AM.

When this proposal was first brought up, bar owners told 22News it would hurt business and force patrons to go somewhere else.

Mayor Domenic Sarno told 22News that crime statistics have improved since the measure went into effect.

Back in November, around 60 people were involved in a massive brawl that started at the Fat Cat and poured out onto Worthington Street.

The fight began around 2-AM.
