Six people homeless after house fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Pioneer Valley Chapter of American Red Cross is helping six people who lost their homes after their 2-family home caught fire Christmas Eve afternoon.

Dennis Leger, Aide to the Fire Commissioner, told 22News the fire started in the basement of the building at 187 Northampton Avenue.

That house is across the street from a house that was destroyed by fire about two weeks ago.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
