SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's an annual tradition. Saturday night, the Springfield Lodge of Elks named their Irish Elk of the Year.
This year's recipient is Thomas Kelly. Per tradition, the Irish Elk was bestowed his customary green jacket.
The Elks Lodge celebrated his award with dinner, dancing and plenty of Irish green.
“It's a great honor,” said Kelly. “The gentlemen that have been on this list before me; I can't even put into words what it's like to be on that list with them.”
Kelly traces his 4th-generation Irish roots back to his great-great grandfather.
He joined the Elks Lodge back in 1994.
