SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for a suspicious man who may be trying to rob homes.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the man approached an elderly couple on Slater Avenue around noon Wednesday, claiming to be from the water department.

About 2 hours later, the man approached a Pequot Street homeowner, claiming he was interested in his backyard fence.

In that case, more than 5-thousand dollars was stolen from the home.

Sgt. Delaney says the man has light brown skin, and is possibly Hispanic. He is in his 30's, around 6 feet tall, and was wearing a yellow hat and a yellow and black shirt.

A Black SUV was used in both cases.
