Springfield bar brawl arraignment

9 arrested, 4 police officers injured

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Those arrested in Saturday morning's bar brawl outside "The Fat Cat" in Springfield will be arraigned Monday morning.

The fight started just before 2 AM--which is closing time for the bars in the city's Entertainment District.

Several women inside " The Fat Cat" got into a fight, which they ended up taking outside. Suddenly, some of the men they were with joined in--and the scuffle grew. At one point, up to 60 people were involved and it took about 20 police officers to break it up.

Four police officers were injured, including a female officer who suffered a concussion.

As a result of this fight, many city neighborhoods were left unpatrolled for about an hour--something which Mayor Domenic Sarno said is unacceptable.

Nine people in total were arrested early Saturday. They will be arraigned in Hampden County District Court.
