Springfield casino proposals now available online

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Springfield is making the proposals for casino construction in the city available to the public.

On Thursday, Mayor Domenic Sarno and Chief Development Officer Kevin Kennedy announced the posting of the Phase I proposals on the Springfield Redevelopment Authority’s website.

The deadline for submissions was October 11, and by that date, Ameristar , Penn-National , and MGM had all filed their proposals. A fourth developer that expressed interest in a Springfield casino, Hard Rock International did not submit a proposal, and is considering other sites in Massachusetts.

Ameristar wishes to build a resort-style casino on the former Westinghouse property on Page Boulevard in East Springfield, which it owns.

Penn-National is proposing a resort casino site in the city's North End, which would include the current properties of Peter Pan Bus Lines and the Republican newspaper.

MGM wants to build a resort casino along Main Street in the South End between State and Union Streets; an area that was heavily damaged in the June 1 Tornado.
