SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Twenty-three-year-old Springfield Firefighter Kenneth Murray was killed early Sunday morning when his car hit a utility pole on Cottage Street in the city's industrial park area.
Springfield Police spokesman Sgt. John Delaney told 22News, "It's been determined that speeding was the cause of the fatal accident."
Murray was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died about an hour later.
He was the son of Springfield Police Sgt. Kenneth Murray.
The traffic accident victim had been one of the firefighters injured during the downtown Springfield gas explosion late last year.
The flag at Springfield Fire Headquarters was lowered to half staff in memory of firefighter Kenneth Murray.
