State renews wood stove rebate program

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A state-sponsored wood stove rebate program proved so popular, the  state has already instituted "round two," providing a second chance for Massachusetts homeowners to save some money on their heating bills.

The "Commonwealth Wood Stove Change-Out Program" offers one thousand dollar and two thousand dollar rebates to homeowners who change out their older inefficient wood burning stoves for newer, more efficient models.

Round two was announced Friday night at Fireside Designs in West Springfield.

State Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Rick Sullivan told 22News any model 22 years old or older qualifies.

"Anything prior to 1990 is going to be old enough and inefficient, so the new technologies that are available today will make everything about 70% more efficient than those older stoves," Sullivan said.

The first round of rebates was funded with $100,000, and the cash ran out in 12 days.  The second round has $800,000, and you can apply right now.
