State Trooper released from hospital

John Vasquez was shot during standoff in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - According to the Massachusetts State Police, Trooper John Vasquez who was shot in the hand and leg during a standoff in downtown Chicopee Friday morning, has been released from the hospital.

State Police Col. Marian McGovern told 22News, Vasquez is a 20-year veteran of the Massachusetts State Police . He has always been assigned to work in western Massachusetts.

Another Trooper, a Chicopee police officer and another man helped Vasquez to a Chicopee police cruiser, which the suspect, Carlos Laguer then shot at.

They rushed Trooper Vasquez to Baystate Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

The Trooper was also known to those of us here at 22News, as he previously worked with us doing police ride-alongs, and providing information about issues like street racing.
