SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Across the globe and right here in western Mass. people were lighting candles Sunday for loved ones they have lost. It's all to support families who have lost a child.
The Springfield Chapter of the Campassionate Friends helps family members cope with their grief. They gathered Sunday night at the Angel Memorial Park in Easthampton to light the night as part of a worldwide candle lighting.
Some lost a child decades ago, for others it has only been a few weeks. "This time of the year we're feeling about the holidays and how they may look different and how you're going to re-invent your family when you have that child that's no longer there," said Beth Jacobs, who lost her son.
Bob MacDonald also lost his son, "Most people that are trying to do it on their own without that friend...more than a lot of people can take."
If you're looking for support, the Compassional Friends meet the first Wednesday of each month at 3300 Main Street in Springfield. The meetings are held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Community Room.
For more information contact Beth Jacobs at (413) 687 - 1073 or FTBMBeth@aol.com. You can also contact Water Mozgala at (413) 533 - 1959.
