CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Chicopee police are hoping that surveillance video will lead them to a man that attacked a woman with a hatchet as she was opening a Willimansett bar and restaurant.
Detective James Tisdell told 22News that on September 21, the suspect attacked the woman at the Dugout Café on Meadow Street. The victim was hit half a dozen times over the head with the blunt end of the tool.
She lost a lot of blood and had to be taken to Baystate Medical Center, but she is recovering.
The surveillance footage, shot at nearby convenience store, shows a man walking into and out of the Dugout Café (the red building in the background). With the video zoomed-in, you can see the suspect carrying the weapon.
Detective Tim Foley described the suspect as a white man about 5’8” tall, weighing about 175-180 lbs. He is described as having a full head of hair with some gray in it.
If you have any information, you are asked to call the Chicopee Police Detective Bureau at (413) 594-1733. If you wish, you may remain anonymous.
