SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man has been charged in the killing of a 90 year-old woman in a 22 year-old unsolved case.
Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni told 22News Faustino Diaz, Jr. of Springfield has been charged with murder and aggravated rape.
Diaz was arrested on Monday and was arraigned Tuesday morning where he plead "not guilty." Diaz is being held without the right to bail until the next hearing which is scheduled for February 21st.
90 year-old Myrtle Marrett was found beaten to death in her apartment on January 20, 1991.
Marrett lived in an apartment on Union Street in Springfield, which was part of an area elderly housing complex.
According to Mastroianni, the Marrett case was one of several his office is working on using new technological and scientific advances.
